After the Shootings: Parting Shots

I want to be done with posts about shootings. In November, the Virginia teacher shot by a six year old was awarded 10 million dollars in a civil suit; school administration failed to act after being informed multiple times the student had a gun. 1

My last 3 posts have been related to shootings. So, on this winter solstice, I ponder. There are many interventions for shootings, but, only one solution. The interventions are many, gun control, red flag laws, metal detectors, screenings, etc. There is but one solutions? What is the root cause of shootings?

A world where no one feels the need to walk into a room and kill people. A world were there is no possibility of settling a disagreement with violence. Abandon resistance to the concept.

If you see an accident on the street and someone is pinned under a car, people rush to help. It’s an instinct and an urge. Everyone helps because they know it is not possible to do it alone.

As we near the end of 2025, can you for a moment envision a world where violence and death are not a means to settle disputes? What would this look like? What would this feel like? Talk amongst yourselves.

Peace
