The Winter Solstice – A Wicked Good Time to Defy Gravity

Boston Common, Saturday Morning, December 21, 2024 @ 7:54 am

Shadows are the longest, because of the position of the sun, during the daylight hours of the winter solstice’s. It’s the shortest day of the year and the longest night. The solstice on December 21st is the first day of winter. Somewhere in this celestial configuration there is a moment of stillness, that time where things flip, instead of the days getting shorter, things go the other way, by the 22nd, the days start getting longer. Consider doing your own flip.

During the holiday season, we’re all inundated with emails, letters, phone calls, all sorts of campaign for funds. You can’t do them all. Really you can’t. Don’t give in to the guilt of every clever campaign and emotional marketing. Defy! Pick the two or three that are priorities to you. That doesn’t take away the importance of so many causes out there, it just narrows your focus and helps you keep your sanity. Seriously, you can’t do them all. Let this be the gift to yourself. Then as a gift to others, remember, like you, everyone cannot do everything. This season, practice grace.
