Practice and Pause

This week poses a dilemma, my post needs work. More work than I can finish in an afternoon.  It’s a subject I’m passionate about and I want to get it as right as possible. So what do I do? Publish or skip a week? For more than  year, my practice has been to publish weekly on Mondays.

The definition of practice is a repeated exercise in or performance of an activity or skill so as to acquire or maintain proficiency in it. I have a daily yoga practice. There are times when I reach a point of fatigue and I just can’t continue certain power poses. I’m too exhausted to have good form and avoid injury. At that point I stop and do other poses.

It’s the same with this week’s post. The power post is not complete, but that is not a reason to abandon the practice of Monday publishing. Kind of like life huh? Everything is not a major power move, some times it’s just a stop, pause and appreciate the moment. It’s only through the cycle of practice and pause, I can do my best work. There is nothing wrong with a pause.

  1. Great post Sheila! I’m glad that you decided to pause instead of moving forward simply to keep the practice. It’s a good reminder of what we should do in life when faced with the same dilemma, take a break and come back to it. Almost without fail, we will end up with a better product than if we ignore the signs that indicate we are not doing our best work. Whether through exhaustion, fatigue, distractions or any of the multitude of things that indicates we need to pause, it’s an excellent discipline and one we should all practice.

This is so true for me.
